Colin the Crocodile Copper Takes His Road Safety A
Colin the Crocodile Copper, Gloucestershire Constabulary’s number one roads reptile brought his usual road safety antics to a school in Nailsworth.
Colin, along with local police officers and PCSOs visited Nailsworth Church of England Primary School on Friday (January 17). The event involved the unveiling of florescent jackets for pupils and road signs around the outside of the school displaying the slogan ‘Thank You For keeping Us Safe’.
The campaign was originally launched in February 2013 at the Park Infant and Junior schools in Stonehouse after a parent on foot picking up their child from one of the schools was involved in a collision with a car driven by another parent picking up a child. The incident raised the issue of how car drivers around schools in Stroud District acted at the start and end of the school day. The aim of the campaign is to educate parents on safe and responsible driving through the pupils.
Local PCSO Steve Wadley who arranged Friday’s guest appearance said “I’m absolutely delighted by how the event went. We’re really grateful to Colin for spending the time to visit the children at Nailsworth School. His visit helps get a very important message across to pupils and parents alike. I’m certain that today’s event will go a long way in keeping the school community safe.”
Colin will be making further visits to schools across the county to keep the message of road safety fresh in everyone’s minds.
